Letting Loose While on Vacation

A week after my Fullbar program was complete I went on that dreaded first vacation to Florida. I only say dreaded because I tend to have a little too much fun with food when at home with my family. We love to eat. Everything revolves around what restaurant we are going to.

One of the things I learned while on the Fullbar program was to plan ahead, don’t eat on impulse. Keeping this in mind I wrote down the restaurants I wanted to go to while in Florida. At each place I decided what I wanted to eat and then modified it. For example, we went to Steak ‘n Shake where I shared the Frisco Melt hamburger with my mom and gave her all of the French fries. Fries are my addiction so I have made a promise to myself that I will completely steer clear of the greasy goodness.

Every evening, movies are the popular activity for my family. I don’t know many people that can stay away from theater popcorn. Whenever we went to a movie, I always made sure to carry a bag of Fullbites. I am pleasantly surprised by how I enjoy them more than popcorn! Each bag has so many Fullbites inside that it really satisfies my cravings. While my family was complaining of butter comas and stomach aches, I was bragging about how I didn’t have to unbutton the top button of my jeans just to walk out of the theater!

It’s All About Balance

Balance is the key while on vacation. In order to feel normal and enjoy myself I don’t like to completely restrict myself when it comes to food. To have that freedom I have to balance not only my food choices, but my eating schedule. I like to plan my larger meal for lunch and a smaller meal for dinner. Eating in this order gives me time to burn off the larger meal before bedtime. Below is an example of my “vacation” food diary.

Morning (9am) – Fruit Smoothie:
½ cup frozen strawberries
½ cup frozen pineapple
¼ cup light soy milk
¾ cup orange juice
2 pumps of Agave natural sweetener

Snack (11am) – Chocolate Caramel Fullbar

Lunch (1pm) – ½ Frisco Melt @ Steak ‘n Shake - NO FRIES!

Snack (3pm) – Apple

Dinner (6pm) – Chocolate Silk Fullbar Fit Shake and a sliced tomato

Once I returned from my 2 week vacation I nervously stepped onto the scale on Monday morning. To my surprise I had not gained one pound, not even an ounce! I can honestly say this was the first time that I didn’t gain any weight while on vacation.

Since returning to California,I have been on weekend trips to Santa Barbara and even survived the recent holidays unscathed. I am down a total of 43 pounds and I am now ready to take on the challenge of Summer!

  • What great will power you have. I want to be able to say no to fries too.

Amazing that you didn't gain any wait on your vacation. That has never happened for me. Your fruit smoothie sounds yummy.

How long was the Fullbar program? Did it end because you reached your target weight loss goal or is there a certain amount of time you need to be on it?
